TT21 Virtual Panel: Human Rights in Malaysia with YB Sivarasa Rasiah, Firdaus Husni, and Lim Wei Jiet

For many of us, the deeply disturbing exposure of extreme police brutality in Malaysia brought the relevance of human rights issues to the fore. In hopes of providing our members and other fellow Malaysians with the opportunity to educate themselves better, OUMC invited a panel of eminent speakers to share their experience and knowledge regarding human rights. They were: YB Sivarasa Rasiah, a legendary human rights lawyer and activist with long years of experience; Ms. Firdaus Husni, a lawyer, activist and expert in constitutionalism and strategic litigation; and Mr. Lim Wei Jiet, a young, up-and-coming lawyer with a roll of high-profile human rights cases already under his belt.

To an audience of over 70 people, this remarkable group of people gave a technical, in-depth, realistic yet inspiring insight into the political and legal forces driving the fight and the (surmountable!) obstacles to the protection of human rights in Malaysia. OUMC warmly thanks them for their contributions, and hopes that the knowledge they shared will survive, spread and continue to inspire Malaysians in all forms.
