TT21 Virtual Panel: Youth in Politics with YB Yeo Bee Yin, YB Kelvin Yii, Qyira Yusri, Ezzaty Hasbullah

2021 was a notoriously turbulent year for Malaysian politics, and it was in this melee of party hopping and government collapse that the political will of the youth gained unprecedented momentum. Perhaps this was evidenced by the impressive turnout to our event – almost 100 attendees!

Some of our esteemed panelists arguably spearheaded this change, and we were delighted for them to join us: Qyira Yusri, the co-founder of the revolutionary Undi18 movement; and OUMC’s own Ezzaty Hasbullah, a co-founder of Parti MUDA and determined advocate of civil rights.

Other panelists, highly supportive of the “youth revolution”, provided their invaluable outlook of policy-making mechanics affecting its development: YB Yeo Bee Yin, former Minister of Energy, Science, Technology, Environment and Climate Change; and YB Dr. Kelvin Yii, current MP of Bandar Kuching and chairperson of a parliamentary select committee.

A sense of empowerment and high spirits followed the charismatic interactions between the panelists, who each had a unique, soulful and inspiring perspective to share. OUMC humbly thanks each of them for their time and insight, which will no doubt continue to resonate with many of us.
