What We Do

We are committed to engaging our members intellectually and socially. Here are the ingredients that have gone into realising that commitment over the years.

Speaker and networking events

We empower our members with opportunities to meet and interact with prominent figures from Malaysia. Past speakers include the queen consort of Johor, former Prime Minister of Malaysia, President of the Dewan Negara, and the British High Commissioner to Malaysia. In each of these sessions, our members benefit from a small and casual setting, encouraging active dialogue with some of the key changers of the country. In addition, we also organise networking sessions with our corporate sponsors and partners; giving our members the chance to learn from leading experts and form good professional ties.

Asian Food Festival

We continue to be ambassadors of our country’s amazing cuisine in the Asian Food Festival, arguable the biggest culinary event held annually in Oxford, featuring the best food of the region. Our members benefit from a time of bonding and teamwork in preparations for the Festival, not to mention a taste of greatly-missed teh tarik or satay when fish and chips just doesn’t cut it.

Oxbridge Malaysia Games

The Oxbridge connection, despite the rivalrous banter, is close to our hearts. The Oxbridge Malaysia Games is held annually as a friendly sporting tournament between the Malaysian societies of these two great universities. We have the privilege to host the Games on alternate years.

Nottingham Malaysia Games

The largest gathering of Malaysians in the United Kingdom sees Malaysian societies from almost every UK university travel to Nottingham once a year for a competition of stamina, brawn and sportsmanship. While we rarely ever have the likes to emerge as victors, we cherish the opportunity to foster great friendships with Malaysians all over the UK, and to enjoy the sumptuous food the Nottingham Malaysian Society graciously lays out.

Student Outreach

We support our fellow students in Malaysia aspiring to have a world-class education at the University of Oxford. Our outreach program begins at the secondary-school level, where we specifically target state school students who may need the additional encouragement. We have, in the past, organised seminars with visiting Oxford tutors, and all our members are ready to assist prospective applicants in any way they can.

Festive dinners and social gatherings

We remain decidedly proud of the community we have formed at the Oxford University Malaysia Club, and we celebrate the major festivals of Malaysia – Hari Raya Aidilfitri, Chinese New Year and Deepavali – together like family. Not to mention the innumerable chill-outs and hang-outs organised informally by our members.

The Annual Dinner

The Annual Dinner is held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia every September as we celebrate another tremendous year gone by and embrace a new year brimming with exciting possibilities. We remain rooted in our heritage and connected to our alumni and current members, even as we welcome our incoming students as part of this family. The Annual Dinner presents an amazing opportunity to see old and familiar faces and meet new ones.
