Summer Speaker Series 2013: Dialogue Session with Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng

On the 29th of May 2013, Oxford University Malaysia Club hosted Yang Amat Berhormat Lim Guan Eng, Chief Minister of Penang for a dialogue session on the recent 13th General Elections in Malaysia. The dialogue session was held at the T.S Eliot Theatre, Merton College Oxford from 6pm to 7pm. The dialogue session was mediated by Haekal Talib, Visiting Scholar at the Oxford Centre of Islamic Studies. Approximately 110 people attended the dialogue.

The dialogue started off with a short speech by the Chief Minister, where he gave a brief overview on the political climate after the recent elections, and his thoughts on the results of the general elections. He emphasized on the need for fair elections and on the participation of youth in national politics, especially on voting. In the dialogue session that occurred later, many questions were raised on the issues regarding the elections and the subsequent reactions in the nation. The session was closed at about 7pm.

The session was then followed by a dinner reception in Merton. The Oxford University Malaysia Club thanks the Chief Minister for taking his time out to speak in Oxford.
