Dialogue-over-tea Session with YB Senator Dato’ Seri Abdul Wahid Omar

On the 22nd of March, the Oxford University Malaysia Club hosted YB Senator Dato’ Seri Abdul Wahid Omar, Minister (Economic Planning) in the Prime Minister’s Office for a dialogue-over-tea session in the late afternoon. The session was attended by undergraduate and postgraduate members of the club, as well as Malaysian students from (the University of) Warwick, Bristol, and Birmingham.

During the dialogue session, Dato’ Seri Wahid Omar shared his views on the Malaysian economy and engaged in constructive discourse with the attendees on hot topics such as the wages of fresh graduates, the brain drain issue, the stability of Malaysia’s monetary system, and the role of highly-skilled talent in Malaysia’s progression up the value-added chain towards a high-income, knowledge-based economy. Dato’ Seri Wahid Omar also talked about the differences between the management of a company and that of a country. In closing, Dato’ Seri Wahid Omar stressed on the importance of carrying ourselves as proud ambassadors of our home country wherever our careers and lives bring us.
